Rainbow MissionsChina Field Report May, 2011
2011 gives a fantastic start to Rainbow Missions (RM) in China. God never stops showing His Almighty power in opening doors for His ministries, remolding and renewing lives of many.
Taiwan Division (TWRM)
The opening ceremony of TWRM was held on 15th January. Chairman Wong, the core members of the RM HK Division, workers of Mainland Division, Mr. Edward Liu of Rainbow Information and Consulting (RIC), friends of RM from US and Japan, and Mrs. Chiao 喬宏太太, who made a special stopover at Taiwan on her way from Seattle to Hong Kong, attended the ceremony. They witnessed how God raised brothers and sisters in Taiwan to participate in His works and miracles in RM. We were all encouraged, and know that nothing is impossible in God. We strongly believe that God will provide everything TWRM needs through touching the hearts of brothers and sisters. TWRM has just started its works. Currently it is not well known by churches in Taiwan. Rev David Lin, the director of TWRM and his team have a lot of work in front of them. The crucial needs for them now are prayers and financial support. We hope brothers and sisters will support them in these two aspects through different divisions of RM.
TWRM Art Group performed and served people with disability at Shanghai in March. They found potential ministry partner. In coming June, the Art Group will perform in the southern part of the Mainland.
Hong Kong Division (HKRM)
HKRM signed a one-year contract with Ma Shan Special Education School early this year in providing living expenses for students. The sponsorship subsidizes 20 poor and disabled students.
HKRM sent a short term service team (STST) of over 40 members to serve in Southern China during .jpg) Easter Holidays. The team included the principal, teachers, students and parents of a primary school in HK. They ran programs at different venues including a primary school in the mountain area, a special education school in a county, a NGO orphanage, and Angel House. They played games with the local children; made handicrafts and musical instruments with them. They went to parks together, served, performed and gave gifts to the elderly in a senior home. The team members were deeply touched. They learned a lot, and keep an influential moment in their lives. However, we need your prayers for a sister team member who fell from a meter high platform and broke many bones in her ankle on the second day of the journey. She is now taking rest in Hong Kong for a few months. We are afraid that the accident may cause some permanent impact on her walking in the future. Please pray for full recovery. She strongly believes that God wants her to go back to serve in Mainland through this special experience.
The core members of HKRM have twice visited a NGO special education school run by local Christians in Liuzhou. 90 students are packed in an old building with only a few classrooms and a small playground. However, the school brings out God given potentials of the children that many of them are Paralympic winners. HKRM will support the school as a partner.
A poor 5-year old child with cerebral palsy has got two big tumors under the ear of his left face. Surgery and hospital treatment will cost about 30,000RMB. HKRM is raising fund for the needs. We are running around to provide care to the family, while you can give out your hands in supporting them financially.
Ministries in the Mainland
After Chinese New Year in February, 6 teachers from special education faculties of colleges in Chongqing and Nanning were organized by RM to visit various facilities and schools for children and people with disabilities in Hong. They got a better understanding of special education in Hong Kong and how assistive technology equipment is used. RM has a huge network that can channel resources so that children with disability in Mainland can be benefited.
In March, RM obtained authorization from an American professor and his organization to teach “Skills for Living”, which is a set of life skills based on Christian values. The materials have been being taught in many colleges and universities in China. RM is honoured to be the first organization that gets such an authority from the professor. We will provide life skill trainings to brothers and sisters through all our divisions in Mainland, HK, Taiwan and US.
In the local city, praise the Lord that 9 teenagers with cerebral palsy and 3 of their teachers and friends have received baptism. JJ is among them. Their testimonies revealed the power of our Mighty God. A friend submitted herself to God after God told her that her difficult and impossible task in hand is His work. God showed her His power by making the impossible possible. A teacher changed from resistance to acceptance because she was influenced by the holiness of the HKRM STST members. Another teacher was attracted by the values and behaviours of the Christians, which are very different from others. The Christ-like behaviour of Christians is the best tool to lead people to our Lord. 2 of the 9 teenagers with cerebral palsy met Jesus in their dreams. One of them talked with the Lord in 3 three different dreams. Thereafter she lives a complete new life. She is filled the Holy Spirit in her prayers that touches all teachers and classmates.

Mr. Edward Liu has retired from his previous job and started working full-time as the general manger leading the ministries of RIC. There is an English Corner at RIC every other week, and soon will be run every week. The English Corner is organized by an American lady and an Asian couple who grew up in US. In addition, seminars about marriage and computer training for the blind are held on a non-scheduled basis. RIC is planning to run scheduled English conversation classes, Skills for Living seminars and counseling courses.
Since the beginning of this semester, RM has promoted the starting of cerebral palsy course in the special education faculty of a teachers’ college. The classes are lectured by very experienced rehab professionals. HKRM help to pay the honorarium to the lecturers. RM is also motivating the setup of the resource center and Rainbow Connections in the Chongqing School for the Blind. We are coordinating the alliance of organizations serving visually impaired in Mainland, Taiwan and HK. We continue to promote job placement for students who are mute and hearing impaired. We have connected with the Blind Union and the school for the blind and deaf in the local city. We have programs with the special education faculty of the local teacher's colleges in various aspects. I have just written an article to introduce the works RM is doing. The article will be published at the website of Christian CEO soon.
When RM helps our partners, we hope the partners eventually can be financially independent from RM. It will be their big success when they can rely totally on local financial resources. We will be very grateful for them. RM can use our resources to support other organizations and children who are poorer and have much bigger needs. We are glad to see that our partners are successful and we can support new partners.
U.S. Headquarter
The U.S. Headquarter is organizing a roadshow at 4 cities in the West Coast of the U.S. and Canada in coming September. 9 members of the roadshow include TWRM Art Group, a blind student who is sponsored by RM, Mrs. Chiao, RM co-workers from HK and Mainland. We ask for your prayers and financial support for this trip which costs about 9,000 U.S. dollars.
